Catholic Dating Apps: What to Check Before You Download
A phone-first guide to Catholic dating apps for singles over 50: what to check, the independent Catholic apps described neutrally, and partner apps compared.

User rating: 4.9 stars out of 5
Updated October 2026. Catholic dating apps put faith-minded singles a few taps away, but the app store is crowded and many titles are built for people half your age. This page is about the phone experience specifically: which kinds of apps suit Catholics over 50, what to check on the listing before you download, and how the apps and mobile sites of our partners compare. If you would rather browse on a computer, our guide to Catholic dating sites covers the desktop side.
We are an independent comparison site. The dedicated Catholic apps named below are not our partners, and we earn nothing from them.
What makes a good Catholic dating app for over 50
Readable screens and simple navigation
Small text and crowded menus are the first thing that frustrates older users. Look at the screenshots on the app store listing and check whether you can enlarge text on your phone through its accessibility settings.
A clear way to state your faith
The best apps for Catholics let you describe how you practice, not just tick a box. Ask yourself whether the app helps you find people who share your approach to Mass, prayer and parish life.
Honest billing through Apple or Google
Premium plans bought in an app are usually billed through your Apple or Google account. Renewal is often automatic, and cancelling means going into your phone's subscription settings, not just deleting the app. Deleting an app does not stop a subscription.
Privacy permissions
Be careful about what you allow. Location is useful for finding people nearby, but you rarely need to share your contacts. Check the permissions the app requests when you install it.
Active members near you
An app with thousands of users is no use if none are within driving distance. Some newer apps limit filtering by distance or diocese until enough people have joined from your area, so expect a quiet start in smaller towns.
The independent Catholic apps, described neutrally
Three names come up most often when people search for Catholic dating apps. We have not partnered with any of them, and we only repeat what each states on its own official pages.
- Sacred Spark. According to its own site, it is a Catholic dating and matchmaking app available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, currently only in the U.S. The core service is described as free, including joining, matching, messaging and video calling, with optional premium features billed through Apple or Google. It says it is aimed at Catholic young adults, so check whether enough members your age are active. Our short Sacred Spark review explains more.
- CatholicMatch. Its site links to apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Its homepage describes a questionnaire and advanced search and mentions premium content, but does not list prices. Third-party sources give figures that disagree with each other, so we do not quote any. See our CatholicMatch review.
- Ave Maria Singles. It presents itself as a marriage-focused service, with a one-time fee according to its site. We could not verify whether it has a dedicated app.
Whatever you choose, read the current terms and prices on the official page or app store listing yourself. As of October 2026, prices change, so check the site for current prices.
Partner apps and sites compared on mobile use
Our partners are general or Christian-friendly, not Catholic-only. The table lists the facts we hold for each, as the sites describe themselves. Check the app store listing for iPhone and Android availability on the day you sign up.

Short reviews for phone-first users
Zoosk
Zoosk reports the largest membership on our list, which helps if you live outside a big city and need volume to find anyone nearby. Because it is general, you will filter for faith yourself. Free to start. Read the Zoosk review.
eHarmony
eHarmony works more like a guided service than a swiping app. You answer questions, then receive suggested matches, which many over-50 users find calmer than constant swiping. It is our top US partner for serious relationships. A free profile gets you started. Here is the full eHarmony review.
Christian Mingle
If you want an app where faith is part of the culture, Christian Mingle is a faith-based option. It is Christian in general rather than Catholic in particular, so say clearly in your profile that you are Catholic. See the Christian Mingle review.
SilverSingles
SilverSingles is built for people 50 and over, so you are unlikely to be the oldest person in the room. You can explore for free before deciding. Our SilverSingles review covers it.
A ten-minute test before you commit to any app
Install the app and stop before entering payment details. Answer the first questions honestly, upload one recent photo, and see what the app shows you. Ask four things. Does it display people in your age bracket and within a realistic distance? Is the text easy to read? Can you tell, before paying, what a subscription adds? And does the profile let you say you are Catholic in your own words? If the answer to any of these is no, delete the app and move on. Remember to cancel any trial you started, because uninstalling does not end a subscription.
It also helps to keep a short list of non-negotiables. Some people want a partner who attends Mass weekly; others are open to a thoughtful non-Catholic. Knowing your own answer in advance keeps you from drifting into conversations that go nowhere.
Getting started safely on your phone
Use a strong password you do not use anywhere else. Keep early conversations inside the app, and be cautious of anyone who quickly asks to move to a private messenger. Never send money or gift cards, however moving the story. Arrange a video call before meeting, and choose a public place for a first meeting.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best Catholic dating apps?
That depends on where you live and how old you are. Newer Catholic apps often skew young, so for over 50 many people also use a general or over-50 app and state their faith in the profile.
Are there free Catholic dating apps?
Some apps offer a free core service with optional premium features. See our page on free Catholic dating sites for how to tell free from free trial.
Is Sacred Spark for older singles?
Its own site says it is aimed at Catholic young adults. People over 50 can still look, but check how many members your age are active near you.
Do I need a smartphone to date online?
No. All the partner sites we compare can be used from a computer, and many people prefer a larger screen. The apps are a convenience.
How do I cancel a dating app subscription?
If you subscribed through Apple or Google, cancel in your account's subscription settings on the phone or the store website. Deleting the app does not stop billing.
Are dating apps safe for seniors?
They can be, if you stay alert. Never send money, verify people by video, and read our safe senior dating sites guide.
