An independent Sacred Spark review: how the Catholic dating app works, what Spark+ costs, what users say and who it may suit.

Updated October 2026. Sacred Spark is a newer Catholic dating app, and if you have heard of it you probably want to know whether it is worth trying. This Sacred Spark review covers how it works, what it costs, what users say and who it suits, using the company's own app store listing and news coverage. It is an independent review: we have no partnership with Sacred Spark and earn nothing from it. Some alternatives mentioned at the end are our partners, and we may earn a commission when you sign up through our links. This does not change our opinion. What is Sacred Spark?

Sacred Spark, also written SacredSpark, is a Catholic matchmaking and dating app. According to Catholic News Agency and EWTN News, it was founded by Emily Wilson-Hussem, a Catholic speaker and content creator, and her husband, Daniël Hussem, and was set to open to the public in mid-October 2025. The founders describe their goal as helping Catholics build marriages that strengthen families and the Church. The App Store listing names the developer as SacredSpark, Inc.

Because the app is new, it has a shorter track record than long-running services such as CatholicMatch. We could not find independent figures for its member numbers, and the company does not publish a total that we could verify. Treat any claim about size with caution.

How Sacred Spark works

These are the main features, as described by the company in its App Store listing and in news coverage:

  • Blurred photos until you match. Profile pictures are hidden until two people have matched, which is meant to encourage looking beyond appearance.
  • Audio and video introductions. Members can record an audio introduction, and profiles emphasize voice and video rather than only photos.
  • No filtering by physical traits. News coverage says users cannot filter matches by things like eye color, hair color or height. The listing mentions an age-range filter.
  • Friends and family as matchmakers. You can invite a friend or family member to suggest matches and add an audio testimonial to your profile.
  • Temperament insights and profile prompts. The listing describes optional temperament insights and personal prompts.
  • In-app video calling, so you do not have to share personal contact details early.
  • Dating formation content. The app includes guidance on communication and discernment.
  • Safety tools. The listing mentions email and phone verification, reporting and blocking, and manual safety checks.

The App Store listing gives an age rating of 18+. We did not test the app ourselves, so we describe it from public sources only.

Sacred Spark cost

The app is free to download, with an optional paid tier called Spark+. As of October 2026, the US App Store listing showed:

PlanPrice (USD)
Spark+ Monthly$29.99
Spark+ 6 Month$99.99
Spark+ Annual$129.99

Subscriptions auto-renew unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can manage them in your Apple account. The listing also mentions a referral program that offers free Spark+ access in its latest version. Prices may change, and may differ on other platforms, so check the app or the company's site for current prices.

What do users say?

At the time of writing, the App Store listing showed an average of about 4.0 out of 5 from 279 ratings, which is a modest sample. Reviews are mixed. Positive comments praise the voice and video features and the faith-focused community, and some users say they met someone through the app. Critical comments say free members face limits, such as a cap on daily profile views and few likes, and that most photos stay blurred unless you pay. One reviewer felt that the app still relied heavily on photos, and another felt the paid perks were limited. The developer has replied that the paid plan is needed to sustain development, infrastructure, support and safety.

These are individual opinions and do not tell you how the app will work for you. They do suggest that you should try the free version first and check how much you can actually do before paying.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • A thoughtful design that slows down snap judgments about looks.
  • Audio and video introductions give more sense of a person than photos alone.
  • Friends and family can play matchmaker, which will appeal to people who prefer a community approach.
  • Free to download, with the option to upgrade later.

Cons

  • New, so the user base may be small, especially outside big cities and among people over 50.
  • Free use appears limited, according to user reviews.
  • The monthly price is similar to CatholicMatch's one-month price on the App Store, so the cost adds up if you stay for several months.
  • It is an app-first service, and some older members may find the audio and video features less comfortable.

Is Sacred Spark good for singles over 50?

It might be, but the app is not aimed at a particular age group, and we cannot verify how many members over 50 use it. If you are comfortable with apps and with recording a short audio introduction, it is worth a free try in your area. If you prefer a website, or a platform built around your age group, SilverSingles is aimed at ages 50+, according to the site. See our guide to Catholic dating over 50 for in-person options as well.

Alternatives to Sacred Spark

  • CatholicMatch is an established independent Catholic service. We are not partners. Read our CatholicMatch review.
  • eHarmony is our top US partner. According to the site, it has about 15 million members and is known for serious relationships. See the eHarmony review.
  • SilverSingles is for ages 50+, according to the site. See the SilverSingles review.
  • Christian Mingle is faith-based and, according to the site, has about 15 million members. See the Christian Mingle review.

Our verdict

Sacred Spark is an interesting, faith-centered app with some good ideas, especially the blurred photos and audio introductions. Its biggest unknowns are the size of its community and how much you get without paying. Try the free version, see who is active near you, and decide from there. As with any dating service, never send money to someone you have not met, video call before meeting and meet in public. You can browse more in our Catholic dating apps hub.
